What is the difference between short-tail and long-tail keywords?
Short-tail keywords are broad and highly competitive, with higher search volume (e.g., "smartphones").
Long-tail keywords are more specific and usually much less competitive (e.g., "pay as you go smartphones").
Why are long-tail keywords important?
Long-tail keywords have lower search volume but because they are more specific, they have much higher conversion potential.

What is keyword difficulty, and how does it affect ranking potential?
Keyword difficulty is measured on a scale of 0 to 100, and indicates how challenging it is to rank for a particular keyword based on the competition.
If rankings for the keyword are dominated by powerful sites, keyword difficulty will be high.
But if there's little competition, keyword difficulty will be low and results will be easier for you to get.
What is the keyword effectiveness index score?
The keyword effectiveness index (KEI) adjusts the keyword difficulty score for the volume of searches.
This makes allowance for the fact that if search volumes are low, ranking will yield less benefit than for keywords where volumes are high.
